Palm Springs (for work)

This last Friday we took a two and a half hour trip to Palm Springs. It was great because Megan, Nina, Melissa, Stefanie, Abbi and I all worked the same event! It was my first catering event since New Years. It was Scher's first ever. I showed her how to tie her new tie in the car. It was a 500 plus people fund raiser for the Palm Springs Air Museum. It was so hot there in the afternoon. It was so nice. Then when evening came and we got to take an extended dinner, it was the perfect temperature to eat outside. It was a beautiful night. Poor Scher hadn't been feeling too well for a couple days, and got worse and worse as the night went on. By the end of the night she had no voice left. She didn't get it back fully until yesterday. We drove and got back about 2:30.

[Not to play into any stereotypes, but we did have to make a stop for a 2 1/2 hour trip. Rookies]
[Megan rocking out to Mo-Town Remixes]
[Stef had a little snack stand going before the party, handing out peanut butter and Ritz sandwiches]
[Abbi and Jeremy(?) with roses in their hair]
[Scher's first event!]
[The set up]
Yesterday I worked the final day of load in for the Pepperdine student opera. Then Jason, a friend Krista, Ashley and I cooked dinner at the Campbell's. We made pasta with chicken marinara sauce, and I learned how to make fried okra! It was awesome, I had never had it before. Then we sat down and had dinner with the Campbells.
After that we watched Amadeus. Did you hear that Ricky? I finally watched Amadeus! But I don't know if I feel better now, or even more ashamed for not having seen it sooner. The movie is amazing, and one of my new favorites.
And now I just found out that the party I'm scheduled to work Saturday is in Palm Springs again! But it's a shorter party which kind of sucks. We'll probably spend half the length of the party getting there and back. But it's work, so I'm not complaining!

The Devolution of a Beard
I wanted to post a full update, but that will have to wait seeing as I'm pretty dang tired. I worked my first event on Friday since New Year's. It was in Palm Springs. I took some pictures with my phone and I'll post a full update as soon as I can. I work the next few days at Pepperdine, then hopefully some more catering. This'll have to tide y'all over till then...

[I would say about two weeks before I shaved. But I kept it about this short.]

[I almost kept this to show Nate I could do it now]

[I did not almost keep this]

[1 & 1/2 days scruff]

Superbowls and More Birthdays

[Seth, Brian and Jason]
All of last week I worked at Pepperdine for the annual student choreographed dance show Dance In Flight (DIF). My official title was "follow spot operator", but I ended up doing rail, projection and about 10 seconds of follow spotting. The show was pretty fun though. Today I'm working a film screening of Flyboys as a benefit to some art company in Malibu. The film is going on behind me as we speak, I'm just waiting to set the stage for a Q & A with the director. So I thought I'd update!
I had to work on Superbowl Sunday. We went to church, Lauren and I went to a few places to look at furniture for her new apartment. Then we picked up a few things and headed over to Adam's place. We had pizza, chips, Rice Crispy Treats, Tri-tip sandwiches and a cooler full of drinks. The game started out pretty eventful, as some of you may know. That got us all going. I did had to leave at halftime, but not before Prince's halftime show! That was awesome! Monday I worked, then watched 28 Days later with Scher. Tuesday I worked, then watched Syriana with Jason. Wednesday I worked, then headed to Oxnard to watch the part two season premier of Lost at Micah's place. It was Micah's birthday the day before, so we had cake and munchies in celebration. I drove with Ashley and Samantha, and on the way back, we stopped on PCH to look at the ocean. Ashley took a picture, but I don't have a copy like she promised. It was a beautiful night! Thursday I worked then watched Inside Man with Jason.
FRIDAY! Okay, so Brian's birthday was on Monday, but not too many people could get together for various obligations. So Friday we all headed to Lauren's parent's place in Yorba Linda (Orange County) to spend the day. Well, kinda. I headed out there just before 11am and got there at Noon. When I was almost there I called Lauren who said both she and Brian had auditions at the last minute. So I putted around for a while till Seth showed up. Then Jason arrived and we started playing ping-pong in their garage. I STILL GOT IT! I kicked their butts! Brian showed up shortly after and we started grilling burgers. Then Adam showed up and started talking trash about being awesome at ping-pong. I shut him up right proper. Lauren called after a bit warning me about traffic, so I had to take off to Pepperdine to work DIF. It took about 2 and a half hours, which was on the better side of our predictions. I worked DIF and hauled it back to OC in time to play some poker.
It came down to me and Brian (like the last time we all played), and just like the last time Brian ended up winning. Then we went for a dip in the hot tub and all was right in the world. Yesterday I worked the last night of DIF, met up with Jason and Ashley at Samantha's place and we watched Saturday Night Live and played the movie quiz game Scene-it. Sam and I won.

Well, this is just good timing; the movie's almost over. I gotta go. To sum up, I've been working quite a bit, but I've been able to squeeze in a good amount of fun. And I have quite a bit of work lined up here for a little while too. Oh, and all of the pictures on this post are only from Brian's birthday bash in Yorba Linda. I didn't have my camera for anything else.
Love you all!
